Why We Exist?

The Friends of the New York State Military Museum is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the museum and Veterans Research Center. Through fundraising, a growing membership program, and operation of the museum shop, we help preserve New York’s military history and expand public access to the stories that shaped our state and nation.

Featured Exhibit

Currently on display in our World War II collection is a historically significant artifact: an original hat worn by Adolf Hitler. This rare item was captured by American forces during the final days of the war in Europe and represents an important historical document of one of history's most devastating conflicts.

Through careful curation and educational interpretation, we use such artifacts to deepen visitors' understanding of this pivotal period in world history and to honor the service of the New York veterans who fought against tyranny.

Museum Expansion Initiative

The New York State Military Museum is continuously working to expand our exhibits to fully represent the breadth of our state's military history. We are currently developing a new section dedicated to the Global War on Terror, which will honor the service and sacrifice of New York's most recent generation of veterans.

This ongoing initiative reflects our commitment to documenting and preserving contemporary military history for future generations. Join us in preserving this legacy by contributing to the museum's ongoing expansion through your support.
